What should you look for when choosing a new dial around phone service? Here is our check list:

• rates;
• fees, charges and taxes;
• level of customer service;
• value added features;
• reliability of service;
• speed of provisioning;

Some comments on the check list:

• rates - rates can vary by location and the pattern of your calls. You may look for a service that offers cheapest state-to-state rates (1+ direct dial) and then use another service (dial around) for instate calls and/or international calls for best savings OR you can try to find one optimal service for all your calls that saves you most. In the second case for example the state-to-state rate could be a bit higher which however would be compensated by the lower instate rate with the plan of your choice;

• fees, charges and taxes - these can vary largely. If you have a small quantity of calls your actual rate can be even twice as much as the advertised rate when additional charges are taken under consideration.
