What should you look for when choosing a new dial around phone service? Here is our check list:

• rates;
• fees, charges and taxes;
• level of customer service;
• value added features;
• reliability of service;
• speed of provisioning;

Some comments on the check list:

• rates - rates can vary by location and the pattern of your calls. You may look for a service that offers cheapest state-to-state rates (1+ direct dial) and then use another service (dial around) for instate calls and/or international calls for best savings OR you can try to find one optimal service for all your calls that saves you most. In the second case for example the state-to-state rate could be a bit higher which however would be compensated by the lower instate rate with the plan of your choice;

• fees, charges and taxes - these can vary largely. If you have a small quantity of calls your actual rate can be even twice as much as the advertised rate when additional charges are taken under consideration. • level of customer service - we have rated our providers in the range from 1 to 7 points. Best quality of customer service is given 7 points;

• value added features - look for these and compare. Often you can get much more in value added services from one company than from another for the same price;

• reliability of service - all our carriers are checked for reliability;

• speed of provisioning - again the rating for speed is from 1 to 7 points, 7 means shortest time for provisioning. Have in mind that dial around services are provisioned much faster than 1+ direct dial services. With dial around services you are not switching your primary long distance company, instead you are "dialing around" that company without switching services.
